28 Crews and 22 boats
from the 3 Clubs enjoyed a good days racing.
The visiting clubs fielded 4 boats each and it was great to see some classes not usually seen at
HOAC.
One of our club
was heard to mutter “we have lost already” after seeing some of the immaculate boats being unloaded in the car
park!
The Weather Gods decided to be kind to us and we had a reasonably steady Force 2-3
which built slightly through the day and from the North which is the best direction for HOAC – none
of the usual 30 degree shifts that we are used to! (Damn there goes the home team advantage) A major improvement on the forecast
48hrs earlier which suggested 2-5 mph winds max and torrential rain all day – even the rain held off.
The 2 Albacores led the fleet round the different courses set for the 3 races, but the racing was much
closer than the results suggest with many good natured battles mid-fleet, it was certainly good experience for our youngsters
to be racing against different boats and crews. Graham Darvill and Myke Bowers in the leading Albacore won
2 of the races but was pipped on Handicap by David and Sandra Wilson in the Graduate in Race 1.
Congratulations
to the winners
